Dr. Rao was born and raised in New Jersey. Graduating with honors, he earned his Bachelor of Sciences in Bio-Psychology from the University of Michigan. He obtained his Medical Doctorate from St. George's University School of Medicine. Through his internship in Internal Medicine at Greater Baltimore Medical Center, he learned a great deal about the pathophysiology of the human body and the corresponding challenging treatments required to improve patients' lives.
Dr. Sudhir Rao was first introduced to the field of medicine when visiting his grandfather, a well-known General Practitioner in India. Despite the lack of immediate medical resources, Dr. Rao witnessed the gratitude and appreciation shown for his grandfather's medical knowledge and his care and compassion towards patients. Incredibly moved by the transformation of many patient's lives through his grandfather's medical care, Dr. Rao dedicated himself to following the same path.
Furthering his medical expertise, Dr. Rao completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center. He graduated with distinguished honors in Neurological and Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology.
As a Fellow at Mt. Sinai College of Medicine, Dr. Rao specialized in Interventional Pain Medicine. He went on to work as an assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine, educating other fellows and residents.
Dr. Rao is a vocal advocate for members of the armed forces and military veterans. He was fortunate enough to work at Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, Texas. Dr. Rao assisted in enhancing and developing the pain clinic designated for the active-duty soldiers with war-related chronic pain symptoms. He developed advanced and effective pain management techniques and treatment plans for his patients suffering from these injuries. He was also the first to introduce the use of the spinal cord stimulation therapy at Fort Hood with immediate success when treating patients with chronic neuropathic pain. Dr. Rao is honored to have had the opportunity to treat wounded soldiers and work alongside the Army's pain physicians.
