Exceptional Patient Care for Over Twenty Years

At Pain & Spine Specialists, our team of advanced pain specialists and nurse practitioners are committed to giving you the most effective and up-to-date care when treating your pain.

Our medical director, Dr. Sudhir Rao, has been practicing medicine for over 20 years. He was inspired from an early age to pursue medicine when he watched the innovative and compassionate care that his grandfather provided to patients in India.

As a pain management doctor, Dr. Rao believes that each patient deserves the professional dignity of comprehensive and compassionate medical care. When he started Pain and Spine Specialists in 2012, he made that belief a core part of our culture. As a practice, we strive to treat each patient as if they were family.

This compassion culture helps foster an environment where patients feel safe and their concerns are validated. Our patients are important to us, and our primary goal is to improve their overall functionality.

What Patients Are Saying

Great office, good people. Been there quite a few years. Never a problem. Leave them a message, they always respond. I've had six back surgeries 2knees and right shoulder. Gregg keeps my chronic debilitating pain managed well so I can still live my life best I can. Im so grateful.

Jenny Martins / google review

Dr. Rao. I can't find the words to tell you how much he has meant to me. I followed him from an old practice to his very new high tech office. They offer so many different areas of assistance to those with issues from nutrition to spinal surgery... and much more. His office is professional.

Dr. Rao is such an amazing doctor! During my first visit, he never tried to rush through my appt.; he genuinely listened to all my concerns and then took his time to explain to me in detail all his recommendations and how they would help me.

Types of Pain Management Specialists

At Pain and Spine Specialists, our team of dedicated anesthesiologists, orthopedic surgeons, and physiatrists work together to provide comprehensive pain management services, help patients identify the causes of their pain, and determine the most effective treatment options to address their symptoms.

  • Anesthesiologists: Alleviating pain through precision and expertise, anesthesiologists are specialized physicians with in-depth knowledge of pain physiology and are experts in managing acute and chronic pain. Their primary role is ensuring patients experience minimal discomfort during and after surgical procedures. However, they also play a vital role in managing chronic pain through various non-surgical interventions.
  • Physiatrists: Restoring function and quality of life, physiatrists, also known as physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) physicians, specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions that affect the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. Their primary goal is to improve patients' functional abilities and way of life through non-surgical interventions.
  • Orthopedic Surgeons: Orthopedic surgeons provide comprehensive care for musculoskeletal pain. The primary goal of orthopedic surgeons in pain management is to restore function, improve mobility, and alleviate pain through surgical and non-surgical interventions. They work closely with other pain specialists, such as anesthesiologists and physiatrists, to develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs.

When to See a Pain Specialist

Recognizing the Signs and Understanding the Importance of Early Intervention

Living with chronic pain can be debilitating, affecting your daily activities and emotional well-being. At Pain and Spine Specialists, our spine and joint pain specialists understand your challenges and are committed to helping you find relief. Knowing when to see a pain specialist is crucial in managing your symptoms effectively and regaining control of your life.

Signs You Should See a Pain Specialist

It might be time to consult a pain specialist if you're experiencing symptoms such as:

  • Persistent pain that lasts longer than six weeks, despite self-care and over-the-counter treatments
  • Pain that interferes with your daily activities, such as work, sleep, or social interactions
  • Unexplained pain that persists even after the healing of an injury or surgery
  • Pain that is accompanied by other symptoms, such as numbness, tingling, or weakness
  • Decreased range of motion or mobility due to pain
  • Previous treatments, including medication or physical therapy, have not provided adequate relief
  • You're relying on increasing doses of pain medication to manage your symptoms

The Importance of Early Intervention in Pain Management

Seeking help from a pain specialist early in the course of your pain can significantly impact your long-term outcome. Early intervention allows for more effective treatment, potentially preventing the progression of your condition and reducing the risk of developing chronic pain. Some benefits of early intervention include:

  • Identifying the root cause of your pain, enabling targeted treatment and better management of your symptoms
  • Preventing further deterioration of your condition by addressing underlying issues before they become more severe
  • Reducing the risk of developing chronic pain syndromes can be more challenging to treat and manage
  • Improving your overall mobility by minimizing the impact of pain on your daily activities, relationships, and emotional well-being
