Treatment overview and more!
Via Disc NP Allograft
Via Disc NP is a non-surgical treatment that helps repair damage to degenerative discs so patients can better manage their chronic lower back pain symptoms caused by degenerative disc disease. As we age, discs can experience wear and tear which can result in a loss of water within the disc and disc degeneration. Over time, disc degeneration can worsen which further causes pain and discomfort.
The ViaDisc NP treatment looks to reverse the damage caused by disc degeneration and relieve pain symptoms. Via Disc NP uses allogeneic tissue, which is recovered donor tissue, that helps directly repair the damaged degenerated intervertebral discs.

What is Via Disc NP?
Via Disc NP (nucleus pulposus) is an injectable allograft that helps supplement degenerated intervertebral discs caused by degenerative disc disease. There are two allograft components, the intervertebral disc tissue particulate, and spine-derived cells. Each of these is mixed with saline and then injected into your intervertebral disc to help both regenerate the disc and delay further degeneration.
If degenerative disc disease is left untreated, in time it can cause more spinal conditions like osteoarthritis, scoliosis, spinal stenosis, and more. Not to mention, failure to effectively treat the condition can warrant more pain and discomfort which can significantly decrease your balance, function, and overall quality of life. Via Disc NP is a great option for degenerative disc disease sufferers who want to effectively address their condition, without having to undergo major surgery.
How Effective Is Via Disc Treatment
Via Disc NP is a safe and effective treatment option for patients. This treatment in clinical trials has been found to both reduce pain and improve function, giving patients the ability to live a normal, healthy life. While degenerated discs may not immediately cause intense pain or discomfort, if left untreated, the disease can develop and cause further cracks and tears, resulting in worsening symptoms.
As a result, disc injections are not only a great treatment option to relieve pain symptoms, but they can also help repair and delay further damage to the disc.
What Conditions Does Via Disc Treat?
Via Disc allograft treats degenerative disc disease (DDD) or discogenic pain. Disc degeneration is one of the most common causes of chronic low back pain. While immediate pain may not be felt, the condition can develop and lead to worsening pain symptoms with time.
Failure to effectively treat disc degeneration can also lead to developing other conditions such as osteoarthritis, scoliosis, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and spondylolysis. Therefore, seeking treatment is essential to reduce pain and improve overall function.

Common Signs, Symptoms, and Causes of Degenerative Disc Disease
Before undergoing Via Disk treatment, a patient must have received a diagnosis of degenerative disc disease. Degenerated discs are revealed through a decrease in disc height, loss of water content, and a loss of nutrient content. These changes result in cracks within the disc and overall cause pressure and strain which results in discogenic low back pain.
Discogenic pain commonly is lower back pain with or without leg pain. The discogenic pain inevitably intensifies as DDD develops. Leaning forward can also further cause more intense pain as it puts more pressure on the affected disc.
Age-related wear and tear of the intervertebral discs cause loss of hydration and disc degeneration. While little can be done to prevent disc degeneration, early diagnosis and seeking treatment are important.

Who is a Good Candidate for Via Disc NP?
If you suffer from discogenic pain caused by degenerative disc disease, consider Via Disc NP. Not only is Via Disc NP minimally invasive, but disc injections effectively address the source of the pain, rather than masking the pain.
If you are looking to avoid surgery, this nonsurgical treatment option is safe, effective, and efficient. Rather than tolerating your pain, hoping it will just go away on its own, this treatment can 1) reduces your pain and 2) prevent/ delay further degeneration from taking place.

What to Expect During Treatment
Before via disc treatment, your doctor will carefully evaluate your medical history and symptoms to determine if a spinal disc injection is the right treatment option for you. From there, the nucleus pulposus particulate will be mixed with saline so it is prepped for delivery during the procedure.
Most patients will go under local anesthesia during the procedure. During treatment, your physician will use fluoroscopy, which is a computer scan that gives real-time video during the procedure so the doctor has an accurate and precise view of the procedure.
Your physician will insert a needle containing the injection in spine for pain into the center of the intervertebral disc. This will help supplement the degenerated intervertebral disc, giving it the essential cushioning and support to reduce your pain symptoms while delaying further degeneration of the disc.

What is the Via Disc NP Recovery Process
Unlike major open surgeries, the Via Disc procedure is an outpatient procedure with a short recovery time. Many patients may experience pain and soreness after treatment which is common as the body adjusts to the increased pressure within your intervertebral disc.
While downtime is minimal, it is recommended you reduce any intense physical activity for up to 72 hours post-treatment. It’s important to follow your doctor’s post-procedure instructions. You may be prescribed pain medications to help better manage your pain from the procedure. Alternative pain-relieving techniques such as applying an ice pack where the injection in the spinal cord for pain was delivered, which can further help reduce your pain symptoms at the injection site.
Your doctor may also recommend wearing a back brace or practicing physical therapy to help reduce pain and discomfort and improve overall mobility and function post-treatment. About 1 month after your treatment, a follow-up appointment will be scheduled to evaluate your pain symptoms.
How Soon Will I Notice Results?
Several weeks after the injection, the graft will start to supplement and repair the damaged disc. This results in support and cushioning of the disc which ultimately reduces pain. Therefore, while it may take weeks post-procedure to experience noticeable improvements, Viadisk provides long-term results and reduces your risk of developing other conditions linked to DDD.
Benefits of Via Disc NP
If you are suffering from pain caused by degenerative disc disease, you must address the source of your pain to 1) better manage your pain symptoms and 2) reduce your risk of developing other health conditions as a result of not properly treating your DDD.
While some risk factors such as pain and discomfort felt at the injection site may be possible, there’s no denying the many benefits of Via Disc NP.
